A service for Richard George Ivory Sr., 79, of Union will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave., Union. Mr. Ivory died Wednesday in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. He was an architectural draftsman for the Chubb Co. in Roseland for five years before retiring in 1991. Before that, he worked for several architectural firms. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Ivory served in the American and Asiatic-Pacific theaters on the U.S.S. Hancock and the U.S.S. Osberg. He was a member of American Legion Post 35 in Union, the U.S.S. Hancock CV-CVA 19 Association and the Tin Can Sailors. A Mason for 50 years, he was a member of the Atlas Pythagoras Lodge 10 F&AM in Westfield and an elder at the Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church in Union. Mr. Ivory was also active with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 60 years, serving as chartered organization representative of Pack 68 in Union and as unit commissioner of the Unami District of the Watchung Area Council. He also was commissioner of the Munsee District of the Flintlocks, an organization of volunteers who maintain and improve the councils three Scout camps. A co-founder of Military Vehicle Magazine, Mr. Ivory was a member of the North Jersey chapter of the Military Vehicle Collectors Club, the Morgan Rifle Corps and the Lambs Artillery Re-enactment Units. Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington before moving to Union 42 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Helen; a son, Richard George Jr.; a daughter, Virginia Brinkerhoff; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
